The Naguabo fisherman’s association has an unlikely ally and champion: the marine biologist of a local conservation organization. Why? Because both recognize that sustainable practices by Puerto Rico’s many fisherman, whose very livelihoods depend upon a healthy, thriving sea and coastlines, is critical for all. In the pipeline are education campaigns, interactive learning centers, restaurant collaborations, technical trainings, better equipment, international fellow exchange… and we’ve only just begun putting pen to paper in this little malecón oasis on an island that is honoring culture and tradition, while layering upon new ideas to co-create a sustainable, flourishing future for the land, the seas and all who live upon and within them.
