Local Food in Puerto Rico Finds Energy in Recovery

I am humbled to talk about our deep-rooted, robust, resurgent local food and sustainable agriculture scene in Puerto Rico for today’s New York Times alongside the powerhouse chefs, farmers and activists who dared to share with, educate, collaborate alongside and welcome me into the fold after Hurricane Maria and in the year and half since the devastating storm — a new resident of the island, a passionate environmentalist, a plant-based eater, a food systems-thinker, a gringa transplant here to serve with hands, head and heart. The seeds of self-reliance are indeed blossoming in Puerto Rico!
