“Power without love is reckless and abusive, and love without power is sentimental and anemic. Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.” ― Martin Luther King Jr. 🙏🏾 May the words, memory and legacy of a doer, a thinker, a leader, a revolutionary, a dreamer, a scholar, a force call us to meaningful action — for “the time is ALWAYS right to do what is right” — and remind us about the power of love, of struggle, of service, of solidarity, of “life’s most persistent and urgent question… what are you doing for others?”
MLK’s passion, fury, intellect, vision and heart have inspired me since my earliest of days, his messages resonating with increasing complexity since I recited his I Have A Dream speech on the playground in second grade. But realization of the work requires far more than remembering quotes, more than posting imagery, more than expressing gratitude on the anniversary of his birth or at any other point throughout the year. What you do, what I do, what we do every moment of every day everywhere for every issue and every person, especially the most marginalized and vulnerable among us, matters in this continuous struggle for change, for justice, for our common destiny. “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” 🗣 Yes to love, yes to power, yes to living our values, yes to speaking up, yes to compassion, yes to fighting, yes to building movements, yes to forging new paths toward ever-deepening commitment to service that honors MLK, that honors all and keeps the dream alive. ♥️
