It’s official... Green My Parents is a fantastic movement! I just got off the phone with Green My Parents CEO/Founder Tom Feegel and participated the GMP Champions call earlier this week. I am very impressed with their work... and we have an exciting partnership to announce, so READ ON!

What is GMP? Here’s my take: GMP is an innovative youth movement to save the economy and the planet at the same time! It is kids educating kids and their parents about simple ways to conserve and reduce resource usage in their homes. You can be a part of that and save over $100 for your family AND help create a more secure planet for the future... sounds good, right?

I thought so too. That’s why we, Teens Turning Green, are supporting their efforts. This is a collective effort for our world - everyone working together. And GMP is one movement I am absolutely behind!

If you are already involved in environmental efforts, why not save money too? And if you are not, why not get involved and save money in the process? Win - win-win situation for you, the planet, and all life now and to come in the future!!

I am no longer living at home, so “greening my parents” is not something I am actively doing... but it absolutely encapsulates the life I live now (in my green dorm) and how I was raised by my mom for eighteen years. I am so excited to be able to mentor younger kids and get them excited about environmental sustainable lifestyle choices! That’s my mission, our TTG mission too: focusing on individuals, schools, and communities. And GMP’s concrete reduction goal is attention grabbing, impactful, and achievable.

Starting with 100 youth Champions, a core group of active advisors including myself and others like Alec Loorz, Jordan Howard, and Adora Svitak, Ally Maize, we will reach out to 100 kids each and grow the movement massively -- aiming to save a collective $100 Million in one year: from Earth Day 2010 to Earth Day 2011.

And then, do good with that money! Through partnerships with kiva.org, donorschoose.org and more, kids involved will be able to donate some of the money that have saved to people in need around the world. Amazing initiative.

Why did Tom start this movement? In his words, “I am a writer and parent who helped create Al Gore's Live Earth on 7/707 the global concerts for a climate in crisis. When I started working with youth, I realized that the real "GREEN Rock Stars" are kids who challenge their parents to Walk the Walk, Live Smart & Save Real Money being green!”

Its ECOnomical (my momma and I started using that phrase a couple years back and I love it!). We need a sustainable economy to create jobs, prosperous individuals, education systems, and ultimately better our world.

And what’s this partnership all about? GMP is unbelievably generously sponsoring my travel to Haiti. I could not believe it when Tom said he wanted to do this and am so incredibly grateful. It means the world that people believe in me, my passions, and work -- to connect with others to sustain our planet and tell the stories of our world. He believes that my presence will make a difference... and I can only hope so! But I am certain I will return home with new knowledge and tools with which to affect change. Every penny I raise for Haiti will go DIRECTLY to development efforts on the ground and the creation of a sustainable healthy peaceful nation for the future.

GREEN MY PARENTS features fun “eco-assignments” that save money and the planet. Kids learn how to kill energy vampires, make their pets greener, and more. They grade their parents on saving energy, water and gasoline.
